The Mike Knight 9K team got their 3rd & 4th races in of the year, racing at Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY for the ULMS Series on Sat. night, and again at Eriez Speedway on Sunday night.

At Busti, we pulled a mediocre pill for the heat, starting near the back, but after a couple attempted starts and great move coming out of turn 4, Mike was in the lead after the 1st lap! A couple more restarts and a few laps into the heat, Mike was passed for the lead, and finished the heat with a solid 2nd place run, which got us in the redraw for the top 8 spots. Unfortunately, we drew the EIGHT, and had some work to do for the 30 lap feature. Once the feature got underway, it took a few laps to sort out the field, and Mike was using various lines to try to pick his way forward. About the halfway point, in battling with Chub Frank, Ron Davies, and others, Mike found the high line to the 9K’s liking, and started a charge to the front. Picking off a car every lap or so, at the only caution flag of the race at lap 21, Mike was up to 4th, which put him on the inside for the restart, not really where his car was the best… At the green, the inside line got bogged down, and Mike had to work his way back out to the topside, and re-started his charge back to the front. Again, picking cars off, he closed to within a couple car lengths of the 2nd place car at the checkers, and not far off from the leader…..  All in all, a good performance, and the crowd liked the rim-riding charge.

At Eriez, the 9K started the heat race dead last ( 8th ) and had some trials and tribulations negotiating the traffic, and eventually picked his way to a 4th place finish, needing a 3rd to get in the redraw! So, we started the feature in the 7th spot, and worked the high side and the bottom to finish a close 3rd at the finish……  Passed a lot of cars during the night, so we weren’t all that bad, just need to find a little more…

This coming week, Friday and Saturday night Mike will be doing all of his wedding festivities, tying the knot with Katie VanOrd. Plans are to be racing at Eriez Sunday night though, so we hope to see everyone there!   Still working out the Memorial Day weekend schedule, but we will definitely be travelling to McKean County Speedway in Smethport on Thursday night for the ULMS Series race…..   We’ll keep ya posted!
